Campus Gets Started on Environmental Sustainability Plan

Fullerton College has embarked on the development of its first Sustainability Plan guided by national standards of the Association for Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE).

“Fullerton College’s Sustainability Plan will not just focus on operational sustainability, but also environmental justice, student equity, learning objectives, staffing plans, curriculum, and other key decisions that the college will strive to achieve by 2028,” said Director of Sustainability Tyler Deacy.

Under the guidance of the Sustainability Committee at Fullerton College, the campus has begun tackling four sections of the plan: Academics, Engagement, Operations, and Planning/Administration. These categories are the same as AASHE’s Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS) reporting tool and aims to provide direction for how the campus will meet the goals over the next five years. It also sets goals for the campus’s future growth.

Deacy is excited to collaborate with colleagues across campus and hopes to have a draft of the plan ready to share with the college community by May 2023.

In addition, the campus continues to make strides in sustainability efforts through innovative practices, instructional courses, energy consumption, and waste management.
